Consultancy

Broadcast Australia is experienced in providing a variety of consultancy services to its clients that incorporate all parts of the transmission and delivery chain. Both technical and business consultancy services are available and include:-
  • Service Planning – determining the antenna pattern requirements (for a practical antenna system) to provide an adequate level of service across a geographic area of interest;
  • Channel Planning – identification of suitable channels for a particular application (MF, FM, TV, DTV, DAB) within a geographic area;
  • System Design – determining the optimum combination of transmitter and antenna systems to meet the service objectives; determining the best value equipment suppliers taking into account the performance requirements of the system and through life costs;
  • Network Planning and Design – determining the optimum transmission network design to cover a wide geographic area. This may include the use of Multiple Frequency Networks (MFNs) or Single Frequency Networks (SFNs);
  • Systems Integration – to ensure the full and intended interoperability of the interconnected sub-elements that make-up the full end-to-end delivery chain;
  • Alternative technical solutions for difficult areas – to identify alternative delivery technologies to provide optimal reception in difficult environments;
  • SFN design and planning; and
  • Business modelling.

BA has provided a range of consultancy services both within and outside Australia since its establishment; examples of which are listed below. This list demonstrates the range of areas in which Broadcast Australia expertise has been utilised:-

Malaysia

  • Radio Frequency Planning for a Mobile TV trial in Kuala Lumpur using DVB-H technology; and
  • Provision of a 24hr help desk for project partners.

Dubai

  • FM radio coverage study under a range of scenarios; and
  • DVB-H coverage study.

UK

  • Digital television planning for switchover from analogue television commencing 2007.

Australia

  • Development of alternative technical solutions for black spot reception areas for analogue television;
  • Radio Frequency planning, coverage assessments, design of analogue facilities, site evaluations for television black spots (numerous projects/surveys);
  • Field testing of AAC+ in Sydney as part of the WorldDMB Task Force development of an extension to the Eureka 147 DAB standard to incorporate an advanced audio coding algorithm;
  • Establishing and operating a DRM trial in Canberra simulcasting analogue and digital services;
  • Frequency search for an MF channel for a commercial broadcaster in Canberra;
  • Field strength reference point measurements;
  • Propagation testing to assess interference impacts; and
  • FM frequency planning in SE Australia (18 locations) for the ACMA.
