Broadcast Australia shares expertise at ABU Symposium
19 Mar 2010
At the 2010 Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) Digital Broadcasting Symposium in March, leading broadcast transmission services provider and the symposium’s principal sponsor, Broadcast Australia, highlighted the advantages that can be enjoyed from the emerging digital broadcasting landscape. Broadcast Australia drew on its wealth of technical expertise and experience to provide some of the region’s key broadcast industry stakeholders with valuable insights into the opportunities presented by emerging digital technology.
“The theme of the 2010 symposium was ‘leveraging the digital advantage’,” said Mike Dallimore, Broadcast Australia Vice President, International Business Development. “The move to digital broadcasting opens up a broad array of advantages that are simply not available through an analogue platform. In addition to the transmission of TV at both standard and high definition, digital TV broadcasting can present a great deal more. It also permits the broadcasting of data, tailored content to portable and mobile devices, infocasting, and hybrid TV—which combines Internet/IP connectivity with digital TV reception.”
Broadcast Australia delivered a keynote address at the symposium, as well as three additional sessions on different aspects of digital broadcasting. These encompassed two presentations—‘Digital radio and its roll-out in Australia’ and ‘Digital television in developing nations’ and one interactive workshop focussing on ‘operations and maintenance’ of large-scale digital broadcast networks.
According to Dallimore, the presentations and workshop detailed some of the major technical and commercial issues associated with establishing, operating and maintaining modern digital radio and television infrastructures. “Broadcast Australia was honoured to be given the opportunity to share its industry experiences,” he said. “The ABU Digital Broadcasting Symposium is extremely focussed on broadcasting issues faced in south-east Asia, and provides an unparalleled forum for key broadcast industry stakeholders in the region to share knowledge, experiences and expertise for the mutual benefit of all attendees.”
