Gold Medal Effort at Beijing Olympics

17 Dec 2008

Broadcast Australia's biggest asset is our people. So when the organisers of the recent Beijing Olympics were seeking someone with expertise and experience in the management and delivery of the host broadcaster's technical infrastructure for the world's biggest sporting event, they came to Broadcast Australia. The requirement for the 2008 Beijing Olympics to be produced in full high definition with 5.1 surround sound provided additional challenges.

Peter Kepreotes, Vice President of Technology - International, was assigned to the task and a consultancy agreement between Host Broadcaster, Beijing Olympic Broadcasting (BOB) put in place.

Peter's past experience as Venue Technology Manager at the International Broadcast Centre for both the Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004 games gave BOB access to a wealth of Games experience and a comprehensive understanding of international broadcasting infrastructure.

Now back from Beijing, Peter continues to support Broadcast Australia's international activities, particularly within the Asia-Pacific region. Broadcast Australia has assisted a number of government and broadcast providers in their consideration and planning for the introduction of digital TV and radio services, providing consultancy services in the key areas of commercial network planning and standards development.
