Broadcast Australia's Group CEO tests services

29 Sep 2009

On 3rd September, Group Chief Executive Officer Graeme Barclay visited the team at Brokers Nose to observe a series of PoP tests. Brokers Nose, located on the escarpment overlooking Wollongong and the Illawarra coastline, provides both analogue and digital television services for the northern suburbs of Wollongong.

Group CEO Graeme BarclayJoining Field Technicians Mick Maric and Paul Murray, Graeme proved that he is not a man to be confined to his desk, working with Mick and Paul to undertake testing of four customer services (two analogue and two digital).

Multiple tests were carried out on the transmitters during Graeme's visit, including analysis on Intermodulation levels, Local Oscillator Phase Noise, Spectrum Mask, Group Delay among many others. Graeme also used this opportunity to conduct a routine OHS inspection of the site.

The results from the testing proved positive, with only minor out of spec results which were soon identified and rectified. Graeme took the opportunity to discuss with Mick and Paul what changes could be made in the way we undertake these tests that would make the job easier for our field teams and more beneficial for our national and commercial customers.

The PoP Tests Tracking System has been developed by Broadcast Australia (BA) to track and report on test due dates and customer report delivery dates. The system is intended to be used by Field Services, to assist BA with keeping in line with contractual obligations relating to testing and reporting timeframes.

"I thoroughly enjoyed visiting the Brokers Nose site to assist with the PoP tests. It has given be a much greater insight into what is required to meet our contract obligations and which areas we should seek to make changes in for mutual benefit. I look forward to visiting other sites and meeting with our Field Services teams and to experience what happens in their day to day (and night to night!!) operations first hand," Graeme said.

Graeme has been invited to join Mick and Paul in late October for a PoP test at the Bega MF site.
