Community
Broadcast Australia actively encourages management and staff to be involved with local communities throughout Australia. The following will give you a small insight into some of the great work we are supporting across the country.
Broadcast Australia and SBS took part in the MS Ride to the Gong which is an annual community event to raise money for Multiple Sclerosis through a charity bike ride. The ride took place on 6 November 2011 and the BA-SBS team has raised more than $113,000 to date. To continue to support this team click here. The team also participated in 2010, raising over $36,000 for MS Australia.
Broadcast Australia commits to Earth Hour each year. Click here to find out more about Earth Hour. Not only for Earth Hour, but across the country we try to minimise our electricity use and switch our lights off (except on our towers of course), so that we can reduce our impact on the environment.
Every 5th of June, Broadcast Australia celebrates World Environment Day. The theme first chosen in 2009 by the company's Environmental Steering Committee was "From Little Things Big Things Grow", reinforcing the concept that everyone plays a part in environmental sustainability. Around Australia, staff plant trees and continue to promote and implement new initiatives to protect the environment. To learn more about WED, click here.
In May 2011, Broadcast Australia and SBS partnered in a group team building activity which incorporated the "Books Behind Bars" program from the NSW Aboriginal Land Council. Management and staff donated books to send to prison libraries, helping diminish our country's growing prison population through education. Click here to read more about this initiative.
Broadcast Australia's staff supports Jeans for Genes Day each year. For more information on Jeans for Genes Day, click here.
In regional and rural Australia, we support local charities including Rural Fire Services, State Emergency Services, local hospitals and community organisations. If you would like your organisation to be considered as part of our annual contribution in lieu of Christmas Cards, please click here.
